old yellow bricks

Somebody told me that she went to Vietnam and hated it. And it seemed like she nearly passed out when I said I love Vietnam.

Days and hours before finally heading to the airport, it was like a washing machine in my stomach. Nervous and excited, and probably every other emotion there is to feel. My mum wasn't going with me, neither was anyone in my family. And I've never left home without anyone of them before.

The moment we touched Vietnam ground, I vowed to myself to just enjoy the trip instead of hanging about thinking about home.

So as we headed home from the airport, I scanned the lives of the people in Vietnam. Some walking by the streets, others squatting by a little table set up as a stall and the majority of the citizens, on motorcycles speeding past the car about two inches away.

My first impression? It's going to be some holiday, with all these people looking as if they would beg the life out of you to get just a little bit of money. I was wrong. Heck, these people would rather commit suicide than look at you. What more to give you a smile.

But after really walking the streets, discovering what the people were like and just taking in everything around - the environment and lifestyle, it actually was an awesome place.

And I wished I could stay longer. And I plan on going back.
With my mum, obviously.

I don't wanna be

Dear Internet,

We have been the best of friends for years and years now. I can't believe that I have to leave you. Or technically, you're leaving me. For the next month, it's going to be tough, but I know you'll be back and hopefully, you won't let me down.

Don't forget me.

I love you, and just pray that in a month's time, I'm not dead yet. Because I'm going to miss you. A LOT.

Seriously A LOT LOT LOT.

Love,
Serena.

my wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to

Dear Mother,

I know lots of people go "You are the best mother in the world," and then you would go, "How would you know? I've been your one and only mother."
But I think I've got the best mother ever, so I wouldn't replace you for someone else, even if they seem nicer.

Over the years, you have done an AMAZING job taking care of us monkeys or whatever it is you want to call us. A lot of mothers can't handle three teenage kids by themselves.

And I know at times you want to give up because we make you mad, we make you annoyed, we make you frustrated. In simple terms inside joke terms, you just want to take Option 4.

But you never gave up, did you?

You've stood by us, you never ever told us that you don't love us anymore.
Sometimes, you tell me I can't do this and I can't do that, and I make a face, I have tantrums, I cry, I whine, I refuse to talk to you. At that time, I never realized that everything you have done, and I mean EVERYTHING, was for my very own good. I see that now. There are still some other times that I don't understand, but I promise I'll be more patient now. I promise that I'll try to understand? haha.

You have been a wonderful mother, always looking out for me and making sure things are okay. I don't know how to repay you, but I hope my presence counts ! (:

I love you, Mother. And I know Daddy would be so happy that you never gave up on us.

Happy Mother's Day !

Love,
Serena.

So I was wondering.

Can I go to Vietnam with my friend?

heh (:

safe

I know in dictionary terms, you're not a real mother, Aunty Lilia. But to me, you're my second mother.
When my school teacher's say "I'm your second mother," I always want to say, "No you're not. My second mum is at home, making me a yummy lunch."

In other words, you ARE a mother, in a way (great explanation, Serena).
You've taken the very best care of me since I was born and you are a part of who I am today. Bad and good. haha. Because you talk to bananas and dogs, so well. If I'm retarded a little, it's because you taught me well.

Thank you for everything, Aunty Lilia. Everything, from the time I was born right up to this second - your prayers, advice, food, company, encouragement and everything else. You're a wonderful person. I love you.

Happy Mother's Day !
